At the 5 o’clock hour this morning, while I waited for a reel to wrap after five hours on the job, I ran out for coffee. In the car I caught the tail end of an interview and I knew I had to hear…

To The Ladies of THIS IS IT! →
I’ve seen the Michael Jackson documentary twelve times. Yes, that’s right, a dozen times. No, I didn’t pay to see it; I was paid to see it (I worked on the release). No, I don’t have stock in…
U2 @ Rose Bowl →
First the good: in my decades plus of U2 concerts, this has to be one of their tightest, most technically spot-on shows. They sounded great and were never out of sync.
The bad: the playlist…
Friday Fun: Last Dance →
Fridays could use more fun. Therefore I’m instituting “Friday Fun!” on this blog. Why? Because gray skies are turning black. Because I’m not at the edge of darkness, I’m in the heart of it. Because…

This was my first trip to the Disney Concert Hall and it’s beautiful with amazing sound but it’s also smaller than I thought. Seems to be a reoccurring theme when I enter buildings I…

Reopening this blog
I shuttered this blog a while back so I could concentrate on my main blog. Still, I miss not having a place to collect my musical musings. Therefore, I’m bringing this blog back to life. I’ll be feeding it only my writings on music (no film stuff here).
And if you are reading this, be sure to say “hello”.

Shuttering this blog
As I post so infrequently, this will no longer serve as my primary music blog. I’ll be using my film blog for all my music posts.
Thanks for the readership and I’ll see you on the other site.

Review: Frightened Rabbit @ Echoplex
First, fuck the Echoplex for 1) mixing the audio so it sounded best by the bar and not at the stage and 2) for having the house right speakers blown. That said, FR rocked. Intimate, passionate, thrilling was their performance. They were spot on but not just re-producing the album live on stage. They were giving the audience the experience they wanted, something the previous band (called...

Review: The Raconteurs/The Kills @ The Greek
First, I was incredibly bummed that I only caught the last few bars of The Kills. I can’t believe I missed them.
As for The Raconteurs, they’re very talented but does every song have to sound like an ADD mash-up of four Zepplin tunes? Relax, I’m not a hater but by the middle of their second set I kept asking myself, “didn’t they already play that song?”

Review: Beck/Spoon/MGMT @ Hollywood Bowl
Um… well… I want to say something positive… how about this: the first half of Beck’s set rocked and… um… it was a beautiful night to be at The Hollywood Bowl. Do I have to write more? No? Great. End transmission.

Feist @ The Hollywood Bowl
I should mention that when I first got into Feist, I saw her perform at the Troubadour (take your first apartment and multiply it by 2, maybe 4). I was pressed right up against the stage, her “costume” was a pair of gold slippers and the defining adjective was “intimate.” For me, that’s the perfect way to see her.
At the Bowl, I was about a 1/3 of the way from the...
Robert Plant & Alison Krauss
At my second show at The Greek in as many weeks, I caught Robert Plant & Alison Krauss with T-Bone Burnett in the backing band. Wow! Yeah, it was awesome to hear a bluegrass version of “Black Dog” and their cover of “The Battle of Evermore” was note perfect but the sheer beauty of the songs and the musical talent was well worth the price of admission (full disclosure:...
Thievery Corporation @ Hollywood Bowl
Thievery Corporation played the Hollywood Bowl… correction, they rocked the bowl and got every @$$ shaking. Their openers varied. I missed the first act but came in just after Los Amigos Invicibles hit the stage. Holy @#$%! These guys were amazing. You must (MUST) find see these guys when they play your local club (and be ready to groove). Bebel Gilberto… um… she’s very...

The Kills @ El Rey
I forgot to post about this concert.
First, I’m a huge fan of The Kills. I’ve seen them live 4 times and I feel like I could see them a hundred more. They never disappoint… except this wasn’t their best show. For some reason they seemed less involved, less driven to rock your f**king world.
That said, you should absolutely check them out while they’re on tour. ...
Rilo Kiley @ The Greek
Last night I caught Rilo Kiley @ The Greek, my third time seeing them live, and it felt like the band was finally maturing into a proper headlining act. The band was musically tight and Jenny’s vocals were sweet and spot on (and thank you for not making that face during “Portions for Foxes” because it always ruined that song for me).
Also, this was the first time I’d been...

The Purple One Strikes Back!
If you were at Coachella, you might have been lucky enough to see Prince cover “Creep” by Radiohead. I was there, I saw it and it was amazing. I even shot a little video and posted it to YouTube. Less than 10 hours later, after 1,451 views, the video was yanked for “copyright infringement.” I’d forgotten that Prince is on top of shutting down non-sanctioned video...
